Nishikawa Minoru’s Personal Record

1929—Born in Kyoto.

1946—Graduated from Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts

Study under a ceramist, Yaichi Kusube, who was decorated with

Order of Cultural Merit

Study under a ceramist, Kanou Mitsuo, professor of Kyoto Municipal

School of Arts and Crafts

1948—Selected for the forth “Japanese Fine Arts Exhibition”

1958—Awarded the first prize of Asahi Newspaper Company at the seventh

‘Asahi Ceramic Exhibition’

1964—‘Fuuhaku’, selected for the highest honor and the prize of Hokuto at

the seventh ‘New Japanese Fine Arts Exhibition’

(Collected by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs)

1966—‘Cyoukou’, invited to exhibit at the Modern Ceramic Exhibition of The

New Generation (Collected by the National Museum of Modern Art)

1968—Invited to exhibit at the International Ceramic Exhibition

1970—Built a new studio in Fukakusa, Fusimi, Kyoto.

‘Thousand Buddhist Images-Adashin’, selected for Chrysanthemun

Prize at the second reorganized Japan National Fine Arts Exhibition

1971—Invited to exhibit at the Japanese Ceramic Exhibition

1972—Appointed as judge at the forth ‘Japan National Fine Arts Exhibition’

1973—Appointed honorable member of the fifth ‘Japan National Fine Arts

Exhibition’

1976—Appointed judge at the eighth ‘Japan National Fine Arts Exhibition’

1979—Appointed judge at the first ‘Japan New Industrial Arts Exhibition’

1980—Exhibited at ‘the International Academy of Ceramic Exhibition’,

supported by the Kyoto Conference.

1981—Studied training in China

1982—Selected for the prize of the Governor of Tokyo at the forth‘Japan New

   Industrial Arts Exhibition

1984—Selected for the Kusube Prize at the sixth ‘Japanese New Industrial

Arts Exhibition

1985—Appointed judge at the seventeenth ‘Japan National Fine Arts

1986—Became a councilor of ‘The Japanese Fine Arts Exhibition’

Held a solo exhibition, produced by Kyoto Prefecture, at Kyoto

Prefectural Center for Arts and Culture

1989—Selected for the Prize of Japanese Minister of Education, Culture,

Sports, Science, and Technology at the eleventh ‘Japan New

Industrial Arts Exhibition’

1993—Exhibited at the “‘93 Art Selective Exhibition”

‘Autumn Day秋陽’, selected for the prize of the Prime Minister at the

twenty-fifth ‘Japan National Fine Arts Exhibition’

1994—Exhibited at ‘the Passage of Kyoto Creative Ceramic-Earth, Fire,

Art-Exhibition’ held to commemorate Heian Old Capital

1200year Anniversary

1995—Selected and awarded for contribution to Kyoto Prefectural Culture

1997—Produced the ceramic wall, ‘Yuyudodo’ for the new office building of

   Kansai Television Company

2000—‘Arc and Square Vessel with Silver’, invited to exhibit at the ‘WORLD

CERAMIC EXPOSITION 2001 in KOREA

2001—Selected for prize of the Prime Minister at the twenty-third ‘Japan

New Industrial Arts Exhibition’

Exhibited at ‘The Industrial Arts of Kyoto’ in Edinburgh, UK

Held a solo exhibition, ‘The Ceramic Art, Nishikawa Minoru’ at the

Art Gallery of the Kyoto Takashimaya Department Store.

Decorated for ‘Distinguished Service for Culture of Kyoto City’

Published a collection of his works of art, ‘Lyricism and Fire’, from the

publishing company, Kyuryudo, in Kyoto, Japan

2003—Appointed judge at the thirty-fifth ‘ Japan National Fine Arts

Exhibition’

2005—Exhibited ‘Barley Harvest麦秋’ at ‘Heian Shrine 1200 Year Festival

Anniversary Exhibition’ and donated to Heian Shrine

2006—Held a solo exhibition, ‘The Ceramic Art, Nishikawa Minoru’ at the Art

Gallery of the Kyoto Takashimaya Department Store for his

Seventy-seventh Anniversary

2010—Appointed Counselor of ‘The Japan National Fine Arts Exhibition’
